Double Olympic 200 metres champion, Jamaica's Veronica Campbell-Brown, clocked an impressive world-leading 21.98 seconds to defeat her arch-rival, American Allyson Felix, at the Adidas Grand Prix Golden League meet in New York yesterday.
In perhaps the most thrilling track event of the day, Campbell-Brown held on in a meet record from a fast-finishing Felix to register her best-ever early-June time.
She was delighted with her time and even more satisfied with the victory.
"I feel great, a season best, my fastest time so early in June."
Campbell-Brown, who led all the way, said she felt a slight cramp during the race, but doubted that it was anything that would bother her going forward or affect her preparation for her next meet, the Prefontaine Classic in Oregon on July 3.
