Jamaica's Chad Wright transferred his Boys' Championships form to George Town, Grand Cayman,
yesterday when he produced an outstanding national junior record of 63.11 metres on the opening
morning of the 2010 Carifta Games.
The Calabar High student made a late charge to claim gold in the world-leading distance for juniors and
also break the championship record of 55.67m set by the second-place finisher, Trinidad and Tobago's
Quincy Wilson, at last year's championship. The winning distance would have been good enough to
take gold at the last World Junior Championships where the gold medal throw was 62.00m by Gordon
Wolf of Germany.
Wright's throw was also well over the 59.52m national junior record set by his schoolmate Traves Smikle
at the recent Carifta Trials at the National Stadium. Wright also broke the Class One record at Boys'
Championships, setting a new mark of 58.86m.
