Heavy security for 100th Champs
« on: March 06, 2010, 09:08:03 PM »
Security is a serious issue for organisers of this month's centenary staging of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Championships scheduled for the National Stadium, March 24-27.

With a sizeable portion of the well over $30 million that has been set aside for the staging of this year's spectacle channelled towards the security arrangement that will be employed at the four-day meet, a clear message has been sent that nothing will be taken for granted.

Police intensify security for champs

The Operations Division of the Jamaica Constabulary Force has implemented several measures to deal with the violence associated with the Boys and Girls Athletics Championship.

Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police, Glenmore Hinds, says all marches involving schools participating in the championships have been banned.

He says security will also be intensified at the National Stadium where the activities are scheduled to take place from next week Wednesday to Saturday.

Mr. Hinds says anyone, including students, who are found with weapons will be arrested and charged.

Meanwhile, the Principal of Kingston College Herbert Nelson, says his administration has also put measures in place to ensure the school’s peaceful participation in the championship events.

He has also expressed satisfaction with the plans announced by the police.
